The Virginia Debate Academy focuses on creating a fun and social community around an activity that develops students’ critical thinking and public speaking. Instructors are collegiate level debaters and are charismatic, lively, and among the best in the state in academics and debate. By using the Socratic method to teach debate, they create an environment that fosters curiosity and excitement to learn.
Through our partnership with the Virginia Debate Academy and with the VCU School of Business, who generously donated space, ten students from area schools were able to attend the week-long debate camp at no cost to them in early August.
Students spent the week learning about debate styles, research methods, and how to determine the credibility of sources. What great preparation for the school year!
